Best of the #sitcomnovels Twitter Hashtag

WWNorton started a Twitter hashtag on Saturday combining books and TV shows...and, within an hour, it was trending in the U.S.! Not all #sitcomnovels are sitcoms (or novels, for that matter), but they're all guaranteed funny (or your money back). Here are my TOP 25:

  • Saved By the Bell Jar (literally 200 different people tweeted this one)
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray's Anatomy
  • Malcom Gladwell In the Middle
  • Who's the Bossypants?
  • Lolita, the Teenage Witch (via @paulruditis)
  • Gossip Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (via @waterock)
  • Kafka Explains It All
  • A Tale of My Two Dads (via @AlanKercinik)
  • Catch 90210 (via @TommyCM)
  • Two and a Half Mice and Men (via @MaureenJohnson)
  • Everybody Loves Raymond Carver (via @MaureenJohnson)
  • Like Seinfeld For Elephants (via @MyraMcEntire)
  • A Vist from the Mod Squad (via @TheBookMaven)
  • Gilligan's Island of Dr. Moreau (via @JasonPinter)
  • Full House Rules
  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Ed (via @DanFriedman81)
  • For Whom Saved by the Bell Tolls (via @TommyCM)
  • Full House of Leaves (via @KristelAutencio)
  • I Love Lucy in the Time of Cholera (via @MegGardiner1)
  • The Pale King of Queens
  • That 1984 Show (via @Bleisner)
  • Ernest Hemingway Goes to Camp
  • Far From the Madding IT Crowd (via @BroughtonLass)
  • For Whom Mr. Belvedere Tolls (via @AGidgetWidget)
  • Jurassic Parks and Recreation (via @totesmarisa)
  • BONUS! --> Boy Meets Brave New World (no idea who listed it first)

Mansfield Parks and Recreation (which I would totally watch).

I know I'm an obnoxious stickler to say this, but several of these aren't sitcoms. "Portrait of Dorian Gray's Anatomy" is a REALLY clever play on words, but it doesn't fit the category. Why not start a #TVdramanovels hashtag or even a #soapoperanovels one. I love these games, but surely they need to have SOME rules.

Another picky one- Gossip Girl isn't a sitcom either... Maybe the Golden Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

I don't play by the rules. GOSSIP GIRL STAYS.

Do I get no points at all for The Moby Dick Van Dyke Show?!

You missed "Sanford and the Native Son" (@daveyjohnson) and "Tender Is the Night Court" (@toastbat) and "Middlesex in the City" (@gangrey) -- ALL of which are in fact sitcoms.

a lot of these are questionable

May I be the first to say 'Who gives a shit' if they aren't sitcoms. Funny is funny.

The Moby Dick Van Dyke Show deserves a spot as well, but that's because it's friggin' hilarious.

The Dangerous Liaisons of Ozzie and Harriet

Okay, you've sold me! Who cares if these aren't sitcoms? Here are some suggestions "Burp Fart McBurpfart" True, that's neither a book nor a sitcom, but, hey, burps and farts are always funny, right?

How hard would it be to start a new hashtag game that WOULD work, people? The answer: zero hard. That's how many hard it would be.

I agree, that the ones that don't actually fit the category are funny! They're great, but they're like a linebacker playing second base -- it's just the wrong game.

Waitaminnit, "Everyone Loves Raymond Carver" was mine, an RT by the fab Ms. Johnson. *Flail*

The first tweet about Raymond I saw was Ms. Johnson's "Everyone Loves Raymond Carver," but I corrected the title of the sitcom from "Everybody" to "Everyone." Since Twitter removes the timestamps after a few hours, I can't go back and declare a winner in this dispute. Sorry.
